National Sugar Stalwart Awarded Highest Honour by Fellow Peers
12th June 2003
Forty-two years in the area of sugar technology has been rewarding for retired technologist Dr Peter Wright and he now has the 'crowning glory' as testament to his efforts.
After more than four decades dedicating his time to the sugar industry to find ways to do things better and ensure there is a sustainable industry in the future, Dr Wright received the highest honour from his peers - The Sugar Industry Technologists Crystal Award.

He is only the fourth Australian and the first Queenslander to receive the prestigious award and despite the gravity of his achievements and this recognition he is indeed a quiet performer.
After studying chemical engineering and sugar technology at the University of Queensland, Dr Wright began his career as a sugar technologist with the Sugar Research Institute in 1957.
"Being recognised by your peers is one of the best things that can happen and I am very proud of it."
